The Ending Lyrics

THE ENDING

I married a man, 1993

As alike and as different as people can be

We charted a course, sailed in to the sun

I don’t dwell on the ending, what’s done is done

He had this odd habit of reading the last chapter first

I stood on the side of not knowing, not knowing if knowing would be worse

If I knew the ending I’d

Write a different story, I’d

Fold my hand, just sit back and ride

Never veer off the chart

All the lovers I’ve loved and lost

Life lessons learned at great cost

If I knew the ending

I wouldn’t know where to start

Yeah, my palm has been read & my fortune’s been told

And I will watch the weatherman blow hot & cold

So I get the advantage of being prepared

Still I hope & I dream that my dreams have a prayer

Why if I hadn’t shot for the stars, what all might I have missed?

It’s a mind game in hindsight but I think that I might

Prefer my ignorant bliss

If I knew the ending I’d

Write a different story, I’d

Fold my hand, just sit back and ride

Never veer off the chart

All the lovers I’ve loved and lost

Life lessons learned at great cost

If I knew the ending

I wouldn’t know where to start

Let freedom ring true for all mankind

Still may all our journeys be divined

If I knew the ending I’d

Write a helluva story.  White

Knuckle, edge of your seat, thrill ride

I’d speak to the heart

Of all the lovers I’ve loved and lost

Life lessons learned at great cost

If I knew the ending

I’d play a different part

If I knew the ending

I wouldn’t know where to start
